The Greatest Love Songs Of All Time
Feb 08, 2010
Features classic favourites including We've Only Just Begun, The Look Of Love, Love Me Tender and many more.
Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award-winning recording artist Barry Manilow teamed up once again with his longtime collaborator, Arista Records founder Clive Davis (now Chief Creative Officer at Sony Music Entertainment), to record a brand new studio album The Greatest Love Songs Of All Time, released on February 8th 2010.
On "The Greatest Love Songs Of All Time" Barry Manilow presents loving interpretations and arrangements of classic, nostalgic love songs for the Manilow and music fan alike. The album selections include jazz and American standards, as well as songs from the Great White Way and the silver screen including: Where Do I Begin? (the theme from "Love Story"), It Could Happen To You, The Twelfth Of Never and, exclusively for the UK, Fools Rush In. The album also features Barry's renditions of The Look Of Love, We've Only Just Begun and "Love Me Tender.
"I've loved these songs for as long as I can remember", said Manilow. "It was an honor to sing songs written by some of the masters of pop songwriting. I think that this is the most beautiful album I've ever made."
Comments Clive Davis: "Barry and I have a mission to bring to a new generation the great songs that are the soundtrack of our lives. This album does just that and Barry is sounding better than ever."
Manilow says, "The last song on the CD is a beautiful song called 'When You Were Sweet Sixteen.' It's the first pop love song ever written. It was composed in 1898 and it's as meaningful today as it was over a hundred years ago".
Clive Davis has been a perennial collaborator with Barry Manilow on virtually all his recordings, since they first worked together on "Mandy," Manilow's debut No.1 single as the first artist signed to Arista by Davis in 1974. Arista is the home to Manilow's biggest hits including "Could It Be Magic," "I Write the Songs," "Looks Like We Made It," "Can't Smile Without You," "Copacabana (At the Copa)," "I Made It Through the Rain," and, of course, "Mandy".
With worldwide record sales exceeding 80 million, Barry Manilow is ranked as the top Adult Contemporary chart artist of all time, according to R&R (Radio & Records); with no less than 25 consecutive top 40 hits to his credit between 1975 and 1983, on the Billboard Hot 100. Manilow has worked on over 40 albums over the course of his career as a singer, songwriter, arranger and producer.
Manilow, who in 2008 played sell-out shows at the 02 and MEN Arena's to rave reviews, starts a two-year run at the Paris Las Vegas hotel-casino in March after spending five years at the Las Vegas Hilton.
