Elvis Presley
Mar 01, 1956
This version contains a wealth of absolute essential Elvis recordings, including 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'Blue Suede Shoes', 'Tutti Frutti' and 'Shake Rattle and Roll'. Even at this early point in his career Elvis was expertly combining his influences of country music, rhythm and blues, soul, rockabilly and pop, resulting in as startling a debut record as any ever made.
The impact of Elvis Presley has been massive on this side of the Atlantic too, where The Beatles were avid followers of the emerging rock 'n' roll and pop music coming in from the US. The John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy depicted this and "Shake, Rattle and Roll" features on the Original Soundtrack for the movie. The Clash have also paid homage to this masterpiece with the artwork for their 1979 album, London Calling.
